Idiot box mania...

A couple of decades ago, it was only either DD1 or DD2.With the advent of Cable and Direct to home services, nowadays there are umpteen number of channels to choose from. Most of us prefer to sit at home and watch TV whenever we are free. Some of us like to dine, sleep and die(!) in front of it.I am no exception, but when my 15 month old stares at the not -tobe- seenby-children scenes, i get really panicky! Sex and Violence which were once properties of the silver screen are now available in our living room 24X7!We set very bad examples for our kids who look upon us as their role models.Hence i am trying to cut down the number of hours in front of the TV.

I dont think sex and violence on TV may affect a 15 month old baby that much, but it certainly is a big issue when the child grows a little older and is able to understand (or get confused by) what's happening in front of him/her. Maybe TV watching should be restricted to IPL, kids movies and Aadal Paadal Thiruvilaiyaadal....

As Sathya and Briji rightly said, it depends on what kind of channels we choose to see.
But most of the tamil regional popular channels which majority of the people usually watch either play the latest kollywood songs or serials. Most of the kollywood songs have too much of adult content and most of the serials have too much of emotional content. Do we have an 'Infotainment' by watching these channels?
I believe watching TV also curtails our other productive creative activities like books reading, sketching etc. Instead we could restrict the hours of watching TV on a day and give time for other activities too....
